A Taste of Christmas. . .

A couple of weeks ago P and I went to a Taste of Christmas in the incredible Tobacco Docks setting in Wapping. Having attended the Taste of London event in the summer in Regents Park we were excited to see what the christmassy version had to offer!

Unfortunately no sooner had we arrived at the venue, my DSLR camera malfunctioned so all of the following photos had to be taken on my IPhone.

The whole place was lit so beautifully in really warming tones with delicious smells permeating every corner, perfect for a pre Christmas evening out. There were Christmas trees dotted everywhere, twinkling lights and lots of tasting tipples to try. It was pretty cold as the building's huge but with a gin and tonic (extra strong) in hand, followed by a rather large mulled wine we warmed up pretty quickly!

We were lucky as we got our tickets for free through P's company, however they are usually about £20 each! Aside from that you also need to buy crowns (a book of vouchers) when you arrive. Each crown is the equivalent of £1... It all feels a little like monopoly money and does add to the buzziness and set up of the event, however I do think it is a little overpriced (especially if you'd paid £20 for the ticket too). There are free samples around, little tasters, but that being said the place was so busy it was sometimes very hard to get to try anything. Unless you are a shoulder barging pro and enjoy a potential scrum for a morsel of cheese then it can feel a little overwhelming. It's amazing just how crazy people will get for a piece of Nutella toasty...

One of the tastiest things we tried was Opera Tavern's truffle mac n cheese. At £5 for a small desert bowl this was decadent and indulgent- but was definitely worth the price tag.

We also tried the Barbecoa burger which was £7 (!) and about 1/3 size of a normal one. Although aesthetically pleasing and packed full of a thick meaty burger I found that it failed to pack a punch in the taste stakes. . . my fiancĂ©, the burger connoisseur, also agreed!

One of our favourite stands was Little Jack Horner's and their unbelievable sausage rolls! I had a pork and sage one and P had a black pudding and apple one. They were succulent, hearty and HUGE and the guys on the stand were definitely the most memorable with such spirit and bon viveur.

On our way out we stopped by The Brownie Bar, a stand that epitomised my every love.... brownies, chocolate and gooey-ness.
We chose four brownies (£10) - a mixture including chocolate orange, Oreo cookie, Cadbury's chocolate fudge and butter scotch.

Having spent about £60 in total we made our way out of the Tobacco Docks relatively full, but with LOTS of room left for the brownies back at home.
