A couple of months ago, P and I took a trip up to Hampstead Village, NW3. Having never experienced this wondrous place before- and having heard many a good thing, we decided to go and explore it for ourselves. With something yummy for lunch in mind and the possibility of indulging in a big slab of cake we set off.
Stepping out of the tube station at Hampstead was like stepping in to a quintessentially beautiful English market town. A lot of quirky cafes, individual shops, antiques markets and cobbled streets. We even stumbled across an arts and crafts fair in the village church complete with home baked cupcakes, bunting and stalls selling handmade jewellery, clothes and one in particular which I loved selling patchwork make up cases and other beautiful patchwork items! It really does have that "country town" feel to it and you do have to remind yourself that you are still in the vortex of London.
We wondered everywhere, up and down streets with the most divine houses, walking past peoples windows and having a little peak in to the most privileged of lives. Huge Dickensian buildings interspersed with some more chocolate box cottages, I dare to imagine the price of these places but isn't it fun to day dream!
Slightly worn out from all our excitement walking around exploring and indulging in what Hampstead has to offer we found a little cafe down a cobbled street which looked warm and inviting. Serving my favourite cake- Carrot, we settled in for sweet treats, tea and a cappuccino, warming ourselves up from the cold. P said the cappuccino was one of the best he had ever tried- a big statement from a man who has a very full passport of stamps!
Hopping back on the tube, we were jolted back in to London life in an instant. We can't wait to go back to Hampstead in the summer to do some more exploring and have a picnic on the heath!
